The band was formed in 2005 by Des, Chris and other local musicians interested in the traditional music of Norfolk; we now perform traditional tunes and songs at Project events as well as for country dances and other public and private events.

Rig-a-Jig-Jig comprises fiddles, dulcimer, melodeon, mouth organ, ukulele and banjo. Our repertoire consists of a large selection of mainly local country dance tunes to accompany English country dances, which are called by two of the band members. We also do 'and friends' events featuring songs, monologues and stepdancing.

Rig-a-Jig-Jig’s concept of traditional music is of home-made fun and games, not a finger-in-the-ear adherence to some idea of authenticity. In this it is part of a proud Norfolk heritage of non-conformity.

The band plays regularly for weddings, birthdays and anniversaries, municipal events, fetes and similar occasions, and has featured frequently on local radio broadcasts. In 2009 we released a CD All At Sea, a selection of local traditional tunes, songs and step dancing, recorded live on board the SS Albatros in the harbour at Wells-next-the-Sea on the north Norfolk coast.

The band is available for bookings across East Anglia. See our Contact page for how to get in touch with us.
