The Magic Of Accidental Songwriting
‘The Magic Of Accidental Songwriting’ was an attempt to explicitly locate myself within the work. More than simply recognise my ‘hand’ as the creator or my ‘eye’ as the observer, I literally wanted to be seen and heard as an integral part of the process.
Firstly, morning in the drawing studio produced a self-portrait. Initially ink and subsequently pencil on A4 paper. Secondly, lunch-time in the Norwich Playhouse bar allowed the self-portrait and snippets of overheard conversations to be integrated into an observed scene. Finally, afternoon in the recording studio allowed the found words to be placed within an improvised musical setting.
