'ORION', completed 2008
Commissioned by Mr and Mrs Duncan Moore.
sited Pyrenees, South of France
‘Orion’ is a 9ft bronze figure, sited in the
foothills of the Pyrenees in the South of France.
The site bears similarities to a favourite painting of Edwards’s
by Nicolas Poussin titled ‘Orion’. It depicts
Orion being led to ‘Helios’ the sun god by ‘Cedalion’ (son
of Hephaestus the god of metal workers and therefore bronze
is featured as a small figure guiding Orion whilst standing
on his shoulders.
The incredible dawns experienced here cast a shadow onto
the face of the sculpture, and continues down his head and
body, allowing ‘Orion’
to regain new sight every day.
There follows a chronology of images of the sculptures development.
